THE MONTH OF RAMADAN
We would like to congratulate the Muslim community in Uganda and around the world as we enter the sacred month of Ramadan. May this Ramadan be a time of spiritual growth and blessings, despite the challenges we face as a nation.
As it is written in the Holy Quran, “Fasting has been prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you in order to guard against evil.” (Quran 2:183)
As we embark on this journey of fasting and prayer, let us to reflect on how we can better ourselves not only during this holy month but also in the days that follow.
This Ramadan coincides with the Christian Lent, uniting the majority of us, both Christians and Muslims, in fasting and prayer. Let’s utilize this period to pray earnestly for our country.
May the fasting be a source of strength and spiritual fulfillment, and may our prayers be heard and answered by the Almighty.
Ramadan Kareem!
DOKOLO BYE-ELECTION
Our candidate, Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, will be officially nominated today at 12:00pm at the office of the District Returning Officer for Dokolo.
Following her nomination, she will address her supporters at Progress SS playground along Lira Road.
Later this week, we will have a meeting with the Electoral Commission and other candidates to harmonize our campaign program, which will be released later on.
We are aware that the Junta is planning to deploy money, weapons, and security services in this campaign in order to overthrow the will of the people, but our trust lies in the support of the people of Dokolo, who have stood by us in our quest to liberate our country.
We call upon the people of Dokolo to place their trust in us, as they have consistently done, and choose our candidate.
CONTINUED MISMANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC FUNDS
Our attention has been drawn to the concerns raised in the Auditor General’s report regarding the Shs 15 billion Goat Roll-Out project that was implemented in 7 districts. The Ministry of Agriculture imported 71 goats at a cost of Shs528 million.
Shockingly, the report reveals that Shs7.3 million was spent on each goat, yet the majority of them died within the first week after distribution. Many of the purchased goats were sick and malnourished.
Our concern as a party lies in the government’s continued mismanagement of taxpayer money and affairs of the country. Despite the commendable work of the Auditor General in exposing such theft, we don’t understand why Parliament fails to take action. Parliament has the authority to decline allocating further funds to these tax payer money vampires, yet they keep approving allocations to them year after year.
We must not forget past scandals, such as the exorbitant purchase of pens by Bank of Uganda at 357,000 shillings, and the purchase of rats during COVID-19 at a cost of 8 million shillings, where individuals involved were merely questioned by parliamentary committees and allowed to go unpunished.
The would-be culprits have now learned the “trick”:-
- They are summoned to the committee,
- Pretend to be terrified,
- Talk softly, don’t argue,
- Sweat profusely and ask for water,
- Then go home and enjoy the “loot”
- They wait for the next allocation.
It’s very clear that this government lacks the will to combat corruption in this country.
We demand that urgent action be taken against any individuals who mismanage public funds and held accountable for their actions.
