The Party National Council sitting today chaired by National Chairman Hon. Jack Sabiiti has ended successful.
The 18th National council meeting has run under the theme “Beyond all obstacles: A cohesive FDC on the path to success”.
The second apex organ of the Party after the National Delegates Conference, has resolved on key strategic directions to the Party as the Party gear up to the 2026 elections which includes;
1. Approval of the filling of the following vacancies in the National Executive Committee;
I. The Hon. Joab Businge the MP for Masindi Municipality has been approved as Deputy President in charge of Western Uganda.
II. Mr. Muhammad Khalifa Mbentyo has been approved as Deputy Secretary for mobilisation and Organization in charge of Eastern Region.
III. Mr. Denis Rom ( Amuru District LC5 Chairman) has been approved as the Deputy Secretary for Agriculture.
2. National Council has approved on an interim basis the Party National Electoral Commission after their tenure elapsed;
I. Chairman – Hon. Toterebuka Boniface Bamwenda
II. Ms. Judith Kabanda – Commissioner
III. Ms. Priscilla Mpirirwe – Commissioner
IV. Al Hajj Abdul Hakim Moli – Commissioner
V. Hon. Joe Emusu Ediegu – Commissioner
VI. Hon. Dr. Alex Okot – Commissioner
VII. Mr. Kudeeba Richard – Commissioner.
3. National Council has also approved the Constitutional review commission led by the Hon. Counsel Yusuf Nsibambi the FDC Party Whip in Parliament and Deputy President. The Commission will fast track the amendment of the Party Constitution which has got a number of gaps.
4. The National Council has approved the Party budget for financial year 2025 / 2026 which was presented by the Treasurer General the Hon. Geoffrey Ekanya.
5. The National Council resolved that the Party will fully participate in the 2026 general elections. To ensure a robust representation across all levels, Council members have been tasked with identifying and recommending qualified candidates from their respective regions and districts.
6. The deadline for the expression of interest for all party positions has been extended by two months from today, in order more time for potential candidates to come forward and participate in the selection process.
Council has also set a timeline for internal structural elections, to take place no later than the end of January 2025 in preparation for the 2026 electoral elections.
